Low 4/1/14 Gynn wall - How this site has worked for me!

Postby MartonPete » 06 Jan 2014, 00:18

So some of you, may have read my previous posts explaining that I only started sea fishing back in July 2013. I came across this site while doing google searches for bits and pieces as I was blanking a lot when I started. Since then boy have things changed for me!

The site gave me great advice on Rigs, bait, venues etc so much that I started to catch some fish... A very nice Plaice being my first (never forget that feeling of seeing it come out the water :yeah2: )

So then I was addicted to fishing and wanted more... First thing to change was my FS reel for a multiplier. Asked on here for advice and several of you came forward, Rushy and 'Blanko' gave a full run down on everything I need to know plus their opinions. So I took it and bought the Abu 6500 CT Mag Elite. :thumb: :D

On setting it up I noticed I needed some advice to ensure I had done it right as I was over spinning a lot. Very quickly 'Jagman' (Stan) replied and not only offered to set up but also take me to Liverpool for a bit of low water fishing :notworthy: . Great night and lots of fish. :fish: I did get covered in sand tho and needed a box rather than a rucksack I was using.

So back on to the site asking if any you wanted to part with a spare box. Up stepped RobF and he offered me a box cheaper than he was going to sell as I was on this site. Great guy and hospitality when picking it up plus even more tips. Will def join you out soon Rob. :thumb:

So now becoming a true hard core addict, I needed even more distance and started asking around for advice on a new rod, Jagman knew of a pair that was coming up in a shop second hand :secret: .... Well I wanted one rod but I ended up with two second hand Zziplex's :cheer: (don't tell the Missis how much they cost tho  )

So why did I include all that before the report.... Well I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has helped me with advice either at the AA meet in November or on the website. Its a great site with so much stuff, it has me coming back daily and I know the report below would have taken a lot longer to achieve had it not been for the site and everyone who contributes. :notworthy:

So onto the report for last night -------

Jagman and I had the rods in the water 2 hours before low tide (4/1/14). Weed was a bit of a problem at first but still catching through it, with lots of Dabs and flounders showing up for Jagman. I was quite for the first 45 mins but then managed to pull in a Dab of my own.. phew not blanked :fishing:

An hour or so before low tide we seem to hit a mark that produced very well. On a two hook clipped down rig we were doubling. Very nice size whiting had come out to play (around 30cm).

Codling were also in there around the same size (unfortunately the 'big one' is still out there for someone else!).

So I am well chuffed as not only did I catch a lot of fish I also managed a 'hat trick' for different fish in one night.

So am I an addict.. Damn right I am!

What a fantastic post  thanks for taking the time to show your appreciation, it's nice to know we get it right occasionally! :D You're right, we are blessed on here with kind hearted and helpful members, we've been lucky to attract such a good bunch. This is why being an open forum outweighs the benefits of a closed one, people can look in and see what we're about, helping fellow anglers and passing on tips and info :thumb:

Great report too Pete, I'm hoping to get out later in the week with Stan myself, I hope I get amongst the fish as well :thumb:

Thanks for the thanks, and thanks for sharing :gp:

Closed forums always seem to die off without new blood and new slants on things after a year o two little has not been said twice.

Good report there, I sat indoors thinking " I should be out there" sometimes you need a shove I suppose? Seem to think to much of fishing the tide up in the evening rather than down, will have to mend my ways and become a little more versitile
