After ducking and diving the horrendous weather on Friday , I couldnt believe this boat trip was given the all clear the following day , We got on the boat at 7 am ,and as we motored out we were greeted by a calm sea and the promise of a bright sunny day , yippee .
With a quid each off everyone for the first keeper cod or ling , it didnt take long for Jim to show his true colours , haha
we stopped off to get some mackerel for bait , so we all rigged up with various mackerel lures . God knows how big Jim thought these mackerel were , with his 10/0 jumbo hockeyes and pirk baited with 2 boxes of squid lol .
The mackerel were showing at about 20 to 30 foot under the boat , in about 180 + foot of water . Jim some how managed to catch a cod on his “mackerel set up” . lol . And was persecuted by the rest of the Donkers from then until eternity .
After we had enough bait fish , we dropped down for the start of our mighty competition . Frank decided he needed to fish deeper than normal so he brought out his heavier weights and pirks . lol .
It did the job and he skillfully managed the first keeper ling now part 2 of the comp was biggest overall fish .
Andy (seascape) was in the money for a while with this 6lb cod
Then we moved on to a different wreck this one threw up a a few better ling with severel around the 8 lb mark , Tony unfortunately lost a corker of a ling just below the surface ,which would of easily bagged the cash , so it was still game on .
I hooked in to something that fought a lot differently than the fish we were catching . This turned out to be a 10 lb pollock , what a scrap .
A few more pics of the lads with quality fish , including a potential world record pouting by Dean , ( ok i confess it was “niged” with the help of Deans very long arms )
