Cod Fishing along the Fylde Coast
– As planned, myself StevieG and MartinG headed off down the Fylde for some cod fishing, well, chasing. The wind was a bit fierce and we were initially planning on Rossall but a text message off Ally suggested to get out of the wind and head round the corner to either Dronny rd or Cadets. We had a quick butchers at Rossall and decided to follow Allys suggestion and plumped for the Cadet base area. A recce of the beach found a massive longline, looking abandoned but with the hooks still on
A phone call from Althebass asking for directions to the car park and we were soon getting ready for the session. The conditions looked perfect for Cod fishing, however the flood didn’t produce anything other than a surprise doggie, considering the wild conditions, to Steve.
Thankfully there was little or no weed. As soon as the tide turned, the codling came on the feed with a fish to Steve on fresh softback crab
Then Nick (tractorman) who was fishing in the next bay with Al, got in the act with a nice slackliner which produced a Codling of around 3lb
Not to be outdone, a whoop of delight signalled that Steve had pulled ashore a better fish, this time the bait was fresh lugworm
Myself and MartinG blanked, with Martin having a few problems with snapped lines in the rough conditions and losing a couple of rigs. Personally, it was a triumph for me to be out fishing again and I thoroughly enjoyed myself despite not catching. The wild conditions, seaspray in the air and being sandblasted by the windblown sand, it felt great to be out again, with the added bonus of excellent company Things may be looking good for a decent Cod season with a few early fish already showing, and to a reasonable size. Lets hope the Cod fishing along the fylde coast is better than the Bass season we seem to have had. Roll on the next session
