Graeme Pullen from The Totally Awesome Fishing Show is reminded of his son Mike’s first ever Permit, but luckily has some vintage footage of the first Permit he ever caught himself. Fishing off the fabulous Florida Keys from the World’s top fishing spot of Bud N Mary’s marina at Islamorada, he gets film of big Permit taken using live crab for bait. Although the Permit is highly sought after by sport fisherman who target them in water as shallow as two feet, they can also provide some awesome action just a few miles offshore on the edge of the Gulfstream, where they congregate over wrecks. Permit are one of the hardest fighting fish you are ever likely to hook into, and a big one can barely be stopped from reaching the sanctuary of the wreck or reef. Check your hook is sharp, check your knots are sound, check your reel is oiled, for if you have one weak link in your fishing equipment – the ocean’s powerful Permit will find it!
