5 bar gate
Went out last weekend, launched 9am, with beachblanker and chef. it didn't look too bad just a bit of a swell. paddled out to a known mark and dropped anchor. chefs first time out so he decided to see how deep it was lucky our major items were leashed on. a learning curve .back on board we all started to catch codling and whiting, no flatties made an appearance, after a couple of hours the swell did it for me and that was time to paddle back in, the waves were breaking at about 4 foot high so it was FUN beaching. a good morning and a learning curve for chef. ( but the swell didn't look that bad) Keith B

The swell can be very deceiving on the Fylde, it can look fairly benign from up top but once you get out there it's a different matter. It's done for me too in the past and I had to come in, so you're in good company.
Stil, at least you all got back in safe & sound which shows you had the right equipment & knowledge of self rescue. It goes to show that going out in numbers is a good idea too. As a rule of thumb I try and keep my head within the confines of the kayak and try not to lean out, cos where the head goes the body is sure to follow and leads to capsizes .
It's all good experience for when the summer arrives and the smoothhounds are in
Cheers for the report and thanks for sharing

Make a difference - take home one piece of someone's angling litter next time you are out fishing
