A wee session on the Holderness coast
After a heavy drinking weekend in London , Monday came around all to quickly and it was time to collect Honey from Bridlington. It was my intention to have a couple of hours on the wall, however it was a little rough n I only did 40 mins. Not a bad 40 mins as I managed 3 fish when everyone else had been there all day for nowt . Nothing new to add to my hunt tally but it was nice to wet a line.
I had also managed to secure 20 odd peelers to be used at the weekend IF I had time.
Whether it was the peelers calling or the fact that I’d totally mashed it up over the weekend I do not know. What I do know tho is that sleep eluded me Monday night. So after 4 hours of tossing and turning I was up at 0400hrs the car was packed and I was away to hit a secret beach for 0500hrs. I arrived without incident and was greeted with near perfect conditions, flat sea, warm weather, off shore breeze of 5-6mph, the only boxed not ticked was the colour, it only went out about 100yards. I was in the water by 0700hrs and by 0706hrs this little beauty arrived.
Smooth hound (new species)

I managed to get my 2nd rod set up just before this guy turned up.
Cod (new species)

It was a little bit hectic to say the least, and more or less a fish a cast. By 0930hrs I was down to my waders, (why did I not wear boots?) It was roasting, even onion boy would have found it hard to keep his clothes on (well if he’d managed any fish that is)
I then hooked into a better fish est 6-7lbs not quite a PB But it did breach several times on the way in and did a little tail walk, in fact several of the smooth hounds did this, it’s an awesome sight.

By 10hrs I had notched up 5 sooth hounds, 3 cod to 4lb, numerous tings and a lesser spotted dogfish.
I then changed tactics and chucked out a 1 up 1 down loaded with squid and lug combos in the hope of something different. I was duly rewarded with a double shot of a cod and a
Pouting (new species)

It was obviously going to be an ok session 3 new species and a bag full of fish. I died off for about an hour or so over high water and at about 12430hrs my rod bounced out of my rest resulting in my biggest smooth hound of the day and a new estimated PB of 8 ½-9lb. (A couple of lads estimated it at this so I took the lower figure) The action didn’t stop and I was thinking of going down to 1 rod. Then I was rewarded with a double shot of a dab and another new species
Flounder (new species)

After a period of no bites I then reeled in my 1 up 1 down to find this little beauty on
Weaver (new species)

I had seen a couple of skate reeled in a thorny and a spotted but no matter what I tried I could not buy a skate bite. So at about 1530hrs I called it a thoroughly enjoyable day and made my way back to the car.
Bait used Peeler, squid, black lug. Rigs Fixed Paternosters, 1 up 1 down and a pullydropper.
Range no more than 70 yards. (I kept it in the colour)
Total tally
9 Smooth hounds
1 LSD
3 Tings
3 Dab
1 Pouting
1 Flounder
1 Weaver
foot note my CLUB MADSAC are having a species hunt this year so new species means new for the hunt not necessarily new to me over all
I had also managed to secure 20 odd peelers to be used at the weekend IF I had time.

wow one of the better reports of late well done and a great read
What does it matter now if men believe or no?
What is to come will come. And soon you too will stand aside,
To murmur in pity that my words were true

To see the wizard one must look behind the curtain ....
