A1 BUTCHERS COMP 21.08.11.
Twelve anglers and four boats to part in the latest Manx boat fishing .com boat comp sponsered by A1 Butchers at willaston .Once again it was a comp run on the lines of ten species being drawn out of the hat and seven hours in which to try and catch them.
Because of the weather the small craft were allowed to start from port st mary where they got a little more shelter from the south westerly winds . This was due to back off and swing round to the north but as the day progressed it didn't and swung more too a south easterly .
The 10 fish pulled out of the hat were ,ballan wrasse, bull huss, pollack, coalfish, conger eel, grey gurnard, launce, poor cod, spur dog and whiting, the pool fish of the day was for the heaviest dogfish .
Merit 1 and Kirsty 111 both headed straight out to the paddle wheel in order to get mackeral for bait and also to get the poor cod , whicked hen saved this for their last task as they headed straight south to port grennaugh.
Corrie "c" who launched from PSM had a cracking start by getting four species in the 1st hour only for the conditions preventing them from venturing to far out to obtain the larger specimens required .The three big fish were all given a token wieght of 5lb so that they could all be returned un harmed .
The real winner of the day was the weather and because of this travelling took up most of time and fishing was not totally enjoyable by all, which did put a slight damper on the day .
Not all doom and gloom though as my nephew Sam Clarke made a long awaited reapearance on Kirsty111and landed a p/b of bull huss and a p/b of conger eel ,both just about the double figure mark ,no exact wieghts but certainly larger than any thing he had caught before .Corrie "C" gave up in the comp reasons given already, but they did stay out and fish and ended up with 13species for their troubles ,weldone .
Finnally we all headed back to douglas and got ready for the wiegh in .The three remaining boats all had 8 species with no boat catching a spur dog or a whiting .Wicked Hen wieghed in for a total wieght of 16lb.11ozs ,Kirsty 111 had a combined wieght of 21lb.3.625ozs ,but the winners on the day were Merit 1 with a combined bag wieght of 24lb.2.5ozs .The pool fish was won by wicked hen with a doggie of 2lb.6.625ozs .
Lets hope that the next comp which is on sept 4thfishing from 10am til 4pm will give us better weather ,many thanks to those who took part in this comp and once more a big thanks to Stu Littlewood of AI Butchers for the sponsership .
