Abbotsbury Cottages/.Southbourne Dorset
Went and fished the cottage's @ Abbotsbury Chesil for a social with 4 lads from the Calshot club.....daylight was poor with not one bite on our coddy and Plaice rigs apart from the Gars and solitary Joey on pop ups.........more time for ripping the wotsits out of each other and getting the low down on calshot...for blokes with 20 plus years of fishing it....seems it aint worth the joining fee....did have a good nag with Mark Tunley who makes me Freshwater rods and He's just come back from China with some New Toys....tried out the 15 ft 5 oz 3 piece....beautiful bit of kit and casts miles ....very much like my Century SRE only much lighter blank and £200 squids less to buy....the 13 footer is stunning too...
them Asian guys do make some quality kit.
anyway....darkness came and we all tried various coddy baits but the dogs and pout were on patrol.....left at midnight to find all the country roads out of Weymouth shut for road works........doh.
so apart from 2 new species and some good company the fishing was pants.
Decided on a quick 9pm till midnight trip to southbourne last night, poxy great big moon was shining its head off and the only bite I had was from this small Blonde Ray but well happy as its my 1st of the season....not quite a bag of sugar in weight but very welcome.
just before 12 my only other bite was from this chunky little Turbot, who after some delicate Gill hook removal went back unharmed
tried the bass rod but that was un bothered for 3 hours.
Must say southbourne has been bloody hard work this year for Rays...dunno why.....still nice to be on the beach for a couple of hours
and add another Ray species to this years tally
