afternoon just of the pipe !
after gettign the day of from work and no wind i decided i would have a go on the pipeline morecambe, i dragged my kayak all the way out from sandylands (without wheels), i was a little bit concerned about doing my back in..or even worse, a hole in the bottom of the kayak , anyways started paddling out and met some pals of the end of the pipe.....he gave me some fresh worm and crab so away i went literally anchored up 20ft from the wall, 1st cast on the flood, my rod was pinging away up and down, thought lovely nice little flounder or plaice, anyways my rod was bent that much i had to give it line, and after a short but sweet scrap, to my supise was a bass at around 3lb, got it to the surface and the line went behind the gills on the bass and snapped my 30lb amnesia line GUTTED !...........anyways carryed on fishing and had a litle greasy eel, and a decent sized flounder, after a freak wave coming over the back of the yak i decided to move further inshore onto the gorsvenor skeer, but the tide was running that hard my little anchor wouldn't stay, i got dragged back inshore so decided to call it a day, my new anchor is now in the post ready for the next session .............i was a bit lonely out there, could have done with someone with me to be honest, there was a few moments were i thought what if............but a great day has to be said, nice way to start my first of many more kayaking trips , on with getting some wheels for it now aswell backs done in

Good to hear you've been out with the new kayak. Sounds a nice bass - pity it didn't come aboard!
you should do well this summer mate!
I fished the Grosvenor slipway until high tide - total blank, fist birds nest in ages, worms being stripped by crabs as soon as they were in the water, and loads of weed! But a great afternoon in the sun anyway.
sorry we didn't catch up.

Re: afternoon just of the pipe !
Nice report, thanks for sharing. Pity about the bass. Just shows how sharp those gill covers are. You must have been hacked off to see it swim away. It just shows you that you don't have to be miles offshore to catch.
I watch with interest how you progress with the yak. You really do need some wheels. I used to do a fair bit of whitewater and surf canoeing when I was younger. It was just as the polyprop and polyethylene boats became available. I have seen many a canoe holed from constantly dragging on the bottom or seal launching off rocks. Sand is incredibly abrasive and will soon wear through your beloved yak. Also, sit on canoes are far safer and easier to get back on than a sit in canoe but I would still be cautious about going out on your own. Life with a canoe is always better with a buddy because you never know what is going to be thrown at you on the day.
Well done, I look forward to more yak reports.

P.S. I've just read through your report again and notice you describe your boat as a kayak. Am I wrong to assume you are using a sit on kayak and you are using a sit in type?

Nice one Adam, good to get a paddle under your belt and a quick session out of the way when I'm fit enough, you can come along with Me & Paul, there's always safety in numbers and the cracks better I'll echo Franks/Bills advice though, get them wheels knocked up mate, don't be dragging your lovely yak over the sand, it won't take much to hole it mate.
I can well believe the bass gill cover sliced through your line, bloody lethal those gill covers I once sliced my hand right open on one, razor sharp
cheers for the report bud

Make a difference - take home one piece of someone's angling litter next time you are out fishing

afternoon just of the pipe !
Remember watching guys kayaking in Oz in the clear blue sea and thinking what fun it must be.... then I also remembered what swims about down there and went back to my chair... Good advice from the seasoned Yakkers there for you mate, full marks for having your first go..!!
