Where to start
If you are in Amlwch, you could fish from the breakwater in Amlwch port,
- there are the tables at Bull Bay, park in the layby opposite the golf course entrance and go through the gate onto the coastal path and turn right, you will see some flat rocks 200 yds or so ahead of you.
- going through the Port and on to Llaneilian, drive down to a small beach with a mini roundabout before the road head on up to the headland and light house. I think you will have to park in the small car park that you will have passed on the way down near the toilets. from the mini roundabout, you can go through the kissing gate and around the coast to the left of the beach continue through the second gate and up over a hil (about 5-10 mins walk) there are are loads of spots to fish along here into fairly deep water.
If you walk up the headland to the right of the beach up towards the lighthouse, there is a gate before you get to the lighthouse on the right hand side of the road. the path will take you through the fields to the rocks and areas to fish. Freshwater Bay is a good location here with deep water and plenty of species.
If you ask at Telboys tackle in the High Street in Amlwch, I am sure he will be able to give you better directions and also point out some other locations.
If you want to fish off a beach, my choice of beach closish to Amlwch would be Cemlyn. Particularily if there is a bit of a swell. Cemlyn is about 7-9 miles from Amwlch, head toward Cemaes Bay and then bypass it and continue on the Holyhead road. about 1-2 miles past Cemaes Bay you will pass the entrance to Wylfa Power Station and then should see a pub on the left hand side.(it was closed last time I was there). Turn right down the road almost opposite the pub (if you get to the Tregela Garage petrol Station you have gone a few hundred yards too far. Continue down this road/lane for probably a mile or so untill you get to a small road on the right that takes you past a House and to the edge of the beach where there is a carpark.
Cemlyn is a stoop sloping shingle beach which gives way to a sandy bottom. If the conditions are right i.e. a bit of a surf, then there is every chance of bass here. I have had rays, Dogfish, place flounder, dab, codling, pouting, coalies, whiting, rockling and bass from this beach and i have heared of Bull Huss being caught here also.
These are just a few of my favorite fishing places near Amlwch.
If you travel to the other side of the island there are many more places, Newborough Beach and Llandwyn island, The ranges at Ty Croes, Cable Bay, Rhosniger beach. Cymyran Beach (good on its day for rays and bass), Treaddur Bay and Holyhead Breakwater to name a few. I am sure if you google those names you will find reports and directions.
As always if you ask in the various tackle shops, I am sure they will give you advice
The main tackle shops are:
Telboys, Amlwch;
Menai Angling, Menai Bridge;
Anglesey Bait Centre, Gallows Point, Beaumaris;
Winnies Worms, Holyhead ;
Valley Baits, at Valley just past four crosses on the way to Holy head, I have had some excellent rag worm from here in the past,
Hope you have a great time and look forward to reading the reports.
P.s. don't forget to wave to my brother-in-law at Anglesey Mowers (between Amlwch and Pensarn) or if you need a mower, strimmer or other similar equipment or just parts for your existing gardening machinery why not pop in!

take the boat to treardur bay one day easy launching go out a bit turn right no need to go far out and drift with feathers you should get coalfish and pollack and its worth putting out a spinner for bass there is a rock uncovered at low water drift past it as tide rises a very good spot enjoy your break and i hope you catch a few

It's a while since i fished over there, but Penmon Point was my favorite area, spinning from the rocks into the area between the land and Puffin Island, there are some good bass and in the summer usually plenty of mackerel. I have also regualarily seen porpoises off here. The ground is extremely rough so spinning or float is best.
From the small beach on the left of the lighthouse, I caught my first ever bass (only a schooly), again the ground is quite rocky giving way to sandier ground, I think, with a long cast. I have also had some nice whitting from here
Further round to the left of this beach there are other marks off the rocks, but I have only fished once and can't quite remember the way to get there. My main memory of this other mark was getting a treble hook caught in my bycep, which I could only get out by cutting it out with my swiss army knife I did carry on and had a few nice mackerel.
On the way to Penmon, there are a couple of fishy looking beaches. I have only fished one of these, the last one yoiu pass right by just before going off to the headland. I fished this one night by mistake. I had been fishing under the suspension Bridge at Menai and around half past midnight I decided to gead to Penmon Point. I was in my sisters convertible Morris Minor, which had a dodgy alternator or dynamo, so the lights were starting to fade when I was nearing the Penmon Priory. I decided to pull into the layby near this beach so I could tap it with a hammer (this usually got it going again, but in the dark I misjudged the entrance and went over a large boulder, taking out the sump. This was in the 80's before mobiles and being after midnight, I didn't want to wake the people in the nearest house, so I decided to fish the beach until the morning. I think I only had dogfish.
If you go ABC at Gallows Point, I am sure that Malcolm will be able to point out some good marks. Also Wirral Sea Anglers site has some good details of fishing marks on Anglesey.

Hope this helps and good luck to both of you on your trips
