Anglesey Days 3 and 4
Day 3 31-3-13 Cable Bay HW 2:00am ish
South easterly wind
Bait Rag, Crab and Sandeel
Although I had had quite a good session at Cemlyn the day before, I decided to try Cable Bay, and specifically the rock mark just below the burial mound. I arrived at 8:00pm and wandered over for a quick scout before going back to the car for my gear. There is quite a nice rocky platform here, with rough ground close in but a good cast puts you on sand.
I set up two rods, one with 1up one down with rag and the other with a pennel pulley alternating between sandeel and crab. Fishing was a bit slow and there was a big swell, which kept me moving up the rocks. First fish I had was a very small whiting on rag, then finished with two doggies, one on sandeel and one on crab.
I left about 11:00pm as the swell was making me nervous and I felt I should find somewhere a bit safer when fishing on my own.
Day 3 (cont) Cemlyn
Still with the need to fish, I stopped of at Cemlyn on my way home and fished for a couple of hours just near the car park. In contrast to my last trip here, it was just Dog fish city and I finished with 5 doggies
Day 4 1/4/13 Cymyran Beach
Having spent the afternoon at the Anglesey sea zoo with the boys, I had renewed optimism that the sea was not just filled with dogfish. Again I decided to try a location new to me (for fishing that is) My Mum tells me that she would often take me down there when I was a toddler to sit at the end of RAF Valley runway and watch airplanes taking off and landing.
On the beach, I decided to fish the corner of the ‘river’ (it is not really a river, bit a channel that separated Anglesey from Holy Island. When I arrived at 9:00pm it was flat calm and still and was just like fishing in a canal.
I fished two rods again, both with similar 1 up 1 down set ups but enabling me to try a variety of baits. Even though there was no movement in the water, I was getting good bites from the start, but was coming up with shore rocklings, the biggest of which was about 8 inches.
(I finished with 8 of these)
soon after there became a little movement in the water, I had a good bite and landed a nice little flounder of 12 oz
The flow mid tide soon became too fast for even my heaviest weight and I stopped fishing for a while. When the flow subsided a little I had a doggie
A couple more smaller flounder and finished with a small coaley
Bait used was sandeel, black and blow and rag worm. All caught fish
