Balcary point

Postby Settle Simon » 26 May 2015, 11:16

Fished Balcary point this morning (3:45am to 7:30am) with my son jame - we are camping nearby.

Used sand eel, black lug abd crab all frozen and used a variety of rigs single and two hook flappers and pulley rigs.

All baits and rigs caught fish and it was pretty much a fish a cast from the off. I finished with 16 doggies and 4 dabs and James had 3 doggies and a dab. James would have probably had a lot more but after he caught gis dogs and dabs he decided to try some spinning to no avail.

It is a beautyfull location into deep water and from what i could tell a clean bottom (which is always a good thing!). There was hardly a breath of wind and a beautyful sun rise. Just a shame not a few different speciess.

Now back on the campsite sitting in yhe sun eating a sausage sandwich.

Sorry no pics but in middle of night i copletely forgot the camera.

Hi Simon, going to Balcary Hotel for a couple of days next week. Complete stranger to that area, any advice on bait shops and marks would be greatly appreciated,
cheers
Tony

Had many a winters night there and round the corner at Rascarrel with some lumping cod during the years that I lived in D&G. Reel Em In on the Vennel in Dump - fries will be your best bet for a tackle shop but I'd take bait and or a fork and pump with you Tony. Other good marks are the cow's snout, flat rock and portling

Hi, I got frozen bait from M McCowan and Son 43 High St, Dalbeattie, Dumfries and Galloway DG5 4AD 01556 610270 They had frozen black, mackerel, sandeel and a few foreign peeler crabs when I went. they also do a small amount of tackle, hooks, weights, etc. and lures.

The mark I fished was at the south east corner of the point. I followed a path from the public car park near the hotel , not the high cliffs path which goes right, but went to the left and then headed up to the point. bit tight for more than a couple of people fishing. I believe that further to the west is a flat rock area where there is room for plenty to fish. I think you take the high cliffs path for this mark.

I wish I had taken a fork or spade because on the bay areas the tide goes right out and was worm cast city.

Good luck and look forward to the reports.
