Blackpool 26/5/16

With light winds forecast on Thursday evening we took the opportunity to launch from BBAC for the first time this year (4.30pm). We didn't venture too far to begin with, dropping anchor about half a mile off South Pier. It was hectic fishing with dabs, dog fish and whiting. After a couple of hours we decided to move further north in search of some bigger species. We ended dropping anchor about 1 mile off North Pier and this was much rougher ground. Both of us were fishing two rods, a light one baited with lug and a heavier one baited with half a mackerel. First cast on the light rod we had a Smoothound at around 4lb, this was followed by a steady stream of dogfish for the next hour. We were experiencing our mackerel baits being picked up and dropped quite a lot which we can only assume were dogfish. Eventually one of them ran and continued to run, this was a better fish and resulted in a 10lb Bull Huss. We had another Huss at about 4lb and plenty more dogs, dabs and whiting. We got back to the club at 9.30pm.
