Brighton Belles
A quick call to a local Brighton regular said,"fish 3 up 3 down".
So,with Tuesdays HW @ 6pm ish I arrived mid afternoon.
For those that still intend on fishing the beach,,,,"Get there early"
as I drove along Madeira Drive below me in the piccy but its rammed with visitors,so up I come to the main road Nr where I wanna fish and that is £15 for 12 hours....naaaaaaaaa ....so I end up further along adjacent to the nudey bit(shingle lump you can see in the pic) of the beach area and that was £5 squid for 11 hours,so trolleyed up for the hike down below.
I'm not used to starting this late in the day but was told fishing over LW wasnt as productive,so I'm set up by 4pm ready to fish.
I set up fresh Black Lug with squid strip tip on a size 2,s and Ragworm on the other hook on the wishbone rig stuffed into a 5 oz device and launched as far as !!!!!
2nd rod was set up 3 hook flapper with similar baits and gently lobbed out 50 yds.
A look left and right found me watching others catching Plaice, but I just had small taps for ages without anything positive then.......
A proper rattle on the flapper rig, top hook plain lug, produced at least a healthy little fight and as it scuttled along the shoreline I beached my 1st Plaice of 2013 all 14oz of it........thank gord !!!!!
not me best snap ever but just to give an idea of how far along the beach from the Marina I was.
well,to say it went quiet again was an understatement so as I was in Brighton which is reknowed for ""FREELUV" I found meself party to a late afternoon teen "Luv In" that would have made a 10 minute B movie in a sleazy late night picture house......but ...don't you just hate in when they,ve both got short hair....cos I was buggered if I knew which one was the man.....still it warmed me up...good luck ladies !!!!!
As last light came I settled for a few arty farty shots.........
Just after 6pm and into darkness I wasnt expecting any more Plaice but was pleased when this small offering arrived..........
6.30pm and another Plaice on Lug and squid strip.
Just afore 7pm and I get a proper rattle on the Dvice rod and as I lifted into the bite a strange jagged fight resulted on a double shot.
Again both on Lug baits,I don't think I had any Plaice on Ragworm at all.
I also had a 26cm Dab on Lugworm.
well that was it as far as the Plaice went as these bad boys arrived en masse and after 6 or so it was time to get going.
Drove from Brighton to Hillhead arriving about 9pm and as soon as I could wade out to the shingle spit I was on it.......yer,as usual nada Raymonds for Gazza,Sandeel and Bluey baits remained intouched till 2am and after being forced off the spit I called it a night as I was knackered and the 90 min drive home
saw me arrive and in me pit by 4am......ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz
Still enjoyed the Plaicing and always good when you add a new species to your seasons tally.

Nice report Gazza
I enjoyed seeing all the plaice coming out and a very spotty dab to boot. There seems to be an odd plaice up here coming out but I think it'll be a few weeks before we start seeing them coming through in any numbers.
When the tide is out are there any features to fish to? If not, how do you pick a spot?

Re: Brighton Belles
Its neaps down there Bill so I didn't see much in the way of what ground I fished over,I relied on a local fella telling me the areas that have sand banks instead of mixed ground,I always cast a 5 oz lead and work it back along the deck from maximum range and feel for gulleys or anything thats snaggin me cast much the same as I would with a ledger on the Thames, just feeling for depressions or weed beds.
To be honest as long as there isnt too much lateral tide I cast as far as.......then break the lead out and wind in 3 turns of the handle all the way in over 10 mins,Plaice and Flounders seem to react to a visual moving bait...much the same as drifting.
