Chesil Beach Dorset(Masonic)
Had a nudge to try Masonic at Chesil Beach for Rays so with time tight only
had a quick 2 up 2 down.
The mixed ground down this end can be expensive on tackle so I always use a rotten bottom link, and as it proved I still lost kit casting over
the reefy bits !!!
anyway, set up a medium sand eel for the Rays and a scratching rig for the
wrasse, having had a 3lb Ballan last time here I was hopeful of another.
The Ballans.albeit small, were soon obliging but I was using 0.17 hook lengths to size 8 fine wire Turbertinies with pieces of small Rag just to get bites anything heavier just got ignored...and yes I did lose hooklengths
but it was worth it to keep bites coming.
I think this was a Cork wing, but I stand to be corrected...not good on Wrasse ID,s I'm afraid.
some of the Brown coloured jobbies are just as nice.
Catching these littleuns has got me wanting to try Portland rox for some
bigguns on crab next time I'm down here.
Although these were fun but nuffin bigger than 1lb
Id like to say there was rip rorin action on the Ray front but it was very quiet untill this little bad boy turned up.......
My first ever Bullhuss from Chesil Beach,so pleased to see its tiny set of knashers that showed it was different from the 100,s of doggies I've had here.....well chuffed.
Also tried a squid head bait close in with a pop up set for the mackies
but only had these pair of snotties that turned my fragile rigs into figure of 8,s.
As I was packing up at sunset a few guys arrived and to prove a point
the fella next to me had a 5lb Blonde Ray so maybe an eve/night time
session might be in order next time I'm here.
So didn't get my target but had a few fish and a NEW species from Chesil so not all bad, and yes got soaked into the bargain
but will be back for another try soon !!!!!!

Great report and pictures.
Nice sunset.
Well done with your catch.
I never did get round to fishing Chesil whilst living in Poole, correct me if wrong, is it not noted for large condor eels, evening fishing

Fishing and nature go hand in hand there is so much to see and enjoy. Catching fish is a bonus.

Re: Chesil Beach Dorset(Masonic)
good session for you.
the 2 smaller blue marked wrasse are male corkwings.
the huss is easy to spot by the 2 seperate nasal flaps.

Great report Gazza and some nice fish and pictures.
I need to start to get some fish identifying done.
If I had caught those fish I would have cacked it and cut the line.
Thought they were weevers
