Re: Cleveleys hounds
Well in lads, What a great day to be afloat, we were battered by smuts all day and i spent some time trying to get away from them but in the end gave up, they were everywhere.
Gave it a go feathering for mackeral 2 rods out fishing themselves but no joy which is odd as we got a few on friday at the gut bouy, (Ribble estuary mouth) but yesterday the feathers were coming in covered with jelly fish tenticles.
Next time we are out we will hit the bay over the banks for Mr Bass. hopefully using live joeys to dodge the smuts
don't get me wrong I don't mind the odd smut, its just when you are Bass fishing they are a pain grabbing every bait that hits the sea floor within mins
anyway a cracking day out and burnt to a crisp, Wendy was burnt to a crisp
PS its her first time out in the boat, and I was shocked when she actually held the fish for the picture !!
unfortunatly could not stand far enough away when taking the picture to get both ends of the fish in or without cutting heads off but these are the best I managed

I've got the image in my head of you being towed along by a double figure smut is this possible or have I got an over active imagination ?

That's more than possible, the bigger ones pull your kayak from side to side in the tide! I'd say pound for pound they are one of the UK's hardest fighting fish!
Make a difference - take home one piece of someone's angling litter next time you are out fishing
