Collecting Terrys Kayak - Jolly boys outing - Archive

Well today was time for another Jolly boys outing ;) ;D ;D ;D

After last time, we made sure that we wouldn't visit Stafford on the way to North Wales and not only took a sat nav with us, but we actually turned it on before it was too late!!! So we were off to a good start.......

The destination?!? Penrhyn Bay near Llandudno. The objective?!?! To purchase a Kayak for Terryg JNR..... :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

After trawling the internet for weeks to find a suitable second hand outfit (that ws reasonably local!!) Terry came accross an Ocean kayak Prowler Big game, with quite a few bits and bobs with it....

We arrived just after 10am, looked around and couldn't see a Kayak anywhere ??? ??? a quick call to the seller and we soon realised that Terry had made a booboo    LL** *LF was the post code we had, LL** *LS was the one we wanted :huan kerr:

A little detour later and we were met by Colin outside his house.....

It turned out Colin had a few other bits for sale that he had forgotten about and after a little haggling.....
Image

......a deal was struck!!!

We decided a brekkie was in order so paid a visit to ASDA in Llandudno......

Image
Image

With the ASDA mega breakfast polished off we headed back down the coast road and pulled up for a bit of a play while we were there..... (it would have been rude not to really!!!)
Image

It just so happened that i had my gear n the car too...

A plan is hatched......
Image

Within no time our gear was on and the Kayak was at the waters edge......

Terry decided to fit the seat...... the wrong way around.... :bleh: :bleh: :bleh:
Image

Thats better...
Image

Attacked by a dog.....
Image

And then had to wait while i went and tried it out :spite: :spite:
Image

Image

Go on then, ill let you have a go
Image

Push us off then!!!
Image

He's away....
Image

Image

There was a little bit of surf to contend with.....
Image

Image

Dave, having come straight off a night shift, was a little dubious, but we managed to coax him into having a play....
Image

Image

Image

Where's he going?!?!
Image

Image

Like all trips it had to come to an end....
Image

The weather got out really sunny while we were there....

Still can't see how you can do an eskimo roll on one of those things- much rather have a proper kayak or folboat with rudder.

The whole point of using a Sit on top rather than a sit in is that they are self draining
(unless you get water inside the hatches) by comparison to a Sit in they are so sturdy.... you would have to really be trying to fully tip one over.

The draw back is the speed you can get out of them, being much wider obviously they have more resistance through the water.

If you come off its a bit like dragging your self out of a swimming pool to get back on.

Great choice of kayak
