Double Marlins with some Tuna action! Quepos, Costa Rica Nov
November 10, 2010

Awesome day of fishing. We started out around 30 miles because there was a billfish bite there the day before, and about an hour in we had our first Marlin hooked up! We fought it for about an hour, using the boat and the angler as to not wear out the fish. Trolling the same area produced another Marlin about 20 minutes after releasing the first one. They were both striped Marlin, although it's hard to tell by the photos. After that, the customers decided they couldn't handle any more Marlin reeling so we went in search of Tuna. We actually had to go through 3 schools of Dolphin with birds until we found one with tuna. Using the stabillized binoculars, it was easy to jump from school to school though, and when we finally found a school that produced, we boated 17 of about 25 good Tuna bites. It was a great day out, enjoy the photos!

More great pictures John
much needed over here at the minute
blowing a gale still and peeing it down!
Do the Marlin go back tagged or does the odd one get kept 'for the pot'
are there any bad hookups or exhausted fish that peg it? I wonder what marlin tastes like, you'd certainly get a few steaks off it!
I'm presuming they'll be worth more to you alive though, as everyone wants to catch them ![fish :fish:](http://anglingaddicts.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/fish.gif)

Make a difference - take home one piece of someone's angling litter next time you are out fishing

If we fight them using only the reel, it will kill them, but we use the boat a lot and try to only leave them hooked up for about an hour. I never kill them, and have only had one die on me when I didn't see it was tail wrapped and we drug it around backwards for an hour. I didn't even know i had a Marlin as it took the bait and went straight down.
With that one, there was a ton of filets and Marlin is one of the best tasting fish I have ever had. The meat is really really white and it reminds me of a mix between Chicken and Wahoo. But then again, I hear everything tastes like chicken!
I don't tag them, I don't understand why they do that really. Those fish will probably be out in the middle of the pacific in a couple of days never to be seen again. i was reading about that, and they were actually finding tagged Marlin from Australia in Hawaii. The billfish foundation was out here a couple of months ago giving away tags, i should have taken them up on it.
