Too little too late, the bass stocks are in a mess and it is about time we did a bit to help but most people do see the sea as a endless supply of fish. These people are the dim stupid sons of bitches that will never change and i bet the law will not change anything but make it a bit more exciting for the fools that are taking bags of fish out of the sea. We should have a bag limit on all sea fishing and start to open our eyes that we can make a difference as anglers and start to protect the sea that we love, if we start it on this bit of the world the rest might follow......SOS save our sea

2 fish bag limit on all sea fishing =more fish in the sea :champ:
ban shore set lines = more fish in the sea :champ:
ban shore gill nets = more fish in the sea :champ:

more fish in the sea = more fun for all

One thing that would be good for the authoritiies is use the money from fines to pay for the policing as it is an income they Didn't have before......But any extra cost's accrued taking offenders to court be ad on top of the fines not with it.
This would have a massive impact on the offenders.......Then it would'nt be worth there while even trying to'' ROB'' fish from there.
When i was younger the warning's i recieved , were it was going to be a fine of £2000 per fish taken and my dear old Dad (god rest his sole)used to go mental if he ever saw it and he was working as an Icelandic Trawlerman back then.

Whatever the fisheries decide to do let's hope they catch and punish the right people.......
Seen it in the past 1st time offender get's caught ...And repeat offenders repeatedly getting away with it..
Instant total ban and that could'nt happen.

But that is why i personally believe that instant action alway's work's better than bringing thing's in slowly never seem's to be effective and cost's a lot more at the end of the day...

(IF YOUR CAUGHT ON THERE WITH ANY TYPE OF FISHING GEAR YOUR NICKED SIMPLE)

Stops all argument's (Just a matter of wait and see now)

That is only my opinion though..........Cheer's John.

 we have lost the only conger mark within 60 miles thanks so much   and do you not think a catch and release zone would of been better and stopping the gill nets down there might of worked out better for all

What I don't understand is why on earth is they a min keep size and not a max also? Bigger fish breed more so would it not be logical to say have

Below are just examples
min 40cm
max 60cm
max 2 fish per person

this would keep the bigger fish in the water to allow them to continue to spawn on and give the younger ones a chance to spawn. I may be wrong on this but don't bigger fish spawn more eggs?

You're quite correct nutty  while I applaud anglers who have landed a 'fish of a lifetime' with a 10lb+ bass, it also makes my heart sink to see them glassy eyed and dead as a dodo.

It's not just anglers though, who in reality account for a very small percentage of bass taken, it's the commercials who net whole shoals and wipe out the local bass communities.

As well as a bag limit, I would go further and have an off season for anglers & commercials alike, during the peak breeding season. There's too many anecdotal stories of double figure bass being hoyed aboard like mackerel, spilling their precious eggs & milt all over the decks of commercials off the channel islands where the main spawning grounds are. Why not let them breed in peace?

In reality, none of our proposals are going to happen until the stocks take a calamitous collapse like it did with the striped bass stocks in the states. Only then did the government take the brave stance of imposing a management plan for striped bass along the Atlantic Coast, which effectively completely banned the taking of striped bass which helped the stocks recover. They then drip fed new amendments which allowed bag limits, size limts etc. which everyone accepted. I think it's going to take a moratorium like this for any new proposals to be taken seriously.
Make a difference - take home one piece of someone's angling litter next time you are out fishing

Fishing Behind the Power Station is now BANNED

Postby pa38 » 29 Jul 2013, 18:17

I took my little doggie (Rottweiler) for a walk around the power station today, and there where 5 people fishing the outflows. On our way back there was a young man from fisheries telling them about the ban, I did notice there was no signs telling you it was banned.
As I got dragged off, or should I say continued our walk ;-) they where packing up without catching a fish. It makes me wonder if tales of HUGE bags of fish where made slightly exaggerated? There are other marks close by producing fish of takable size so why bother....

The outflows were very sporadic but when the Schoolies were around they were REALLY around. I never fished it again after catching over 30 on a white redgill in about an hour. Sort of sickened me off a bit but I've seen a group of 3 staggering off with a seriously large sports kitbag that must've had 100-150lb of fish,it was about 4 foot long and near ripping at the seams.

The fish there can be VERY localised too, they tend to be withon 50-100m of the outflow channel which meant even between the 2 outflows you could blank while others caught 100 apiece 50m up.Bags really were that big, back in the 80s 4 lads from up our way had pictures of 300+ Bass . It'd just been that long it was going on,anyway as many lads will bear testament it was sadly not exaggerated, wholesale slaughter would be a fair term when there were large shoals about.

Amen to its closure, disappointing to hear no signs around and people fishing there, there WERE signs down there. Need some big metal ones bolted to the stonework so the IFCA don't need to pussy about educating anglers, just get in feet 1st + fine offenders as hard as the law allows.

Funny you should say that mate ??? There's a spot in Sea Angler this month about a voluntary bailiff scheme where anglers would be able to become sort of 'hobby bobbies' for the fisheries.
