Sounds like 5 bar gate that mate was it a dead end road just after the Vue?

Or you may have been up by the boating lake in fleetwood?

Let me know i can give you advice on most fylde marks (except low at Rossall point) and south shore blackpool.

cheers
steve

It was a dead end mate there was an ice cream trailer thing at the end and loads of parking a big sandy beach with shingle at the wall numbers all along the wall and a cafe / public toilets at the other end of wall

Ok it sounds just like 5 bar gate (the confusion comes from me, as there is a mark in rossall that sometimes also has an ice cream van and a beach just as you describe)

I will tell you about 5 bar gate:

LOW: Its best fished from one hour before low water so this weekend for EG 1700hrs and really up to and past high.

looking out to sea from the ice cream van, you will see on the prom to your right a farm gate (hence the name of the mark!) on the beach right in front of that gate is a fresh water outlet try not to fish near it.

if you was to walk out at low tide you will notice that after the shingle is a very wet stretch of sand running left to right this is a gully a fills in minutes on the flood. it fills from right to left as you look at it.

As you continue to walk out over the sandbar there is another gully if the tide is low enough this is also passable it starts where the rocks are uncovered on the sand.

there is a 3rd gully which will uncover on very low tides only and you will probably only get 20 mins on this sand bar max!

When the sea starts to flood here it floods the gullies fast (i had to grab my gear and run on the saturday just gone as i left it a few minutes too late and it was up to my knees on my chest waders!)

You will notice the water coming up the sand bar when its almost at the top move. back to the next gully so on and so forth.

Its best to fish it in daylight first so this weekend for your first time would be a bad idea next weekends low would be better (1035) as if you get there early enough 0800 you will see the water retreat the flood is the opposite direction but FASTER coming in.

I hate to bang on about how fast the sea comes in on fylde marks i have grown up around the beaches of the fylde all my life and have great respect for the sea and the quickness of it. I have seen the RNLI rescue people off the islands that are formed so many times and have heard of deaths year in and year out by people not realising how fast and deep those gullies fill.

High tide is usually off the shingle but on a very high tide with a strong westerly it will reach the wall making it almost impossible to fish due to the cars behind you.

the gullies are where i think the fish are so at low sand bank to gully is easy unless you want to blast it over the next sandbank if its unreachable which would be a challenge. I have caught in these gullies on the flood and retreat.

High again don't blast to far the gully is right in front of you!

To the far right over the gate (looking out to sea) the sea will hit the wall/large steps it is fishhable here when the tide is high etc to the left in front of the vue/venue there is a huge rocky area that extends out into the sea not nice rocks like teeth shaped rocks!

I hope that makes some sense you really should give it a go but get there a few hours before low and fish the tide out to get a sense of what is going on. Or wait a couple of weeks and i will gladly fish it with you.

Take care
steve

:gp: :gp: Great post Steve and pretty much spot on with the info........The only thing i would like to add is that if you have never fished this type of venue especially at low water is find a fishing buddy who know's the area and on this site there will alway's be someone willing to go and show you the ropes ......Far safer than going it alone especially on the 1st time out ....Local knowledge is alway's the safest option where ever you go anywhere in the country..........Always take a compass and fully charged phone just in case of emergencies....Better safe than sorry.....On a brighter note go and enjoy the fishing and bag yourself a nice big fat Cod :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish: :thumb:
