Heysham 27th April 2011

After a last minute let down for a kayak session (Mr Rushworth   :huan kerr: :huan kerr: ) I decided to head out on my own for a few hours.

Decided to fish just off throbshire in the hope of a few flatties and the off chance of an early Bass. Launching the kayak in Half moon bay just after low water.

The tide was just starting to push as I got my self in position and dropped the anchor maybe a couple of hundred yards off throbshire rocks. Initially it was a little sloppy but nothing I couldn't handle and it eased off to just a slight swell later.

Bait for the session was fresh peeler.... about 20 poppers ready to go

Bites came thick and fast with double shots of flounder, not what i was after really but decent sport all the same

Image

Eventually a better bite came and a decent struggle from a decent fish... thoughts half crossed my mind of a small schoolie but it turned out to be a nice Plaice and another flounder

Looking at the fish I had guessed around 2lb, but weighed at home it was 1lb 12oz. Another couple of months It may have gone 2.5lb with a bit of feeding up as size wise it was a big fish...

Bites continued but only one more plaice came aboard in amongst the pesky mud sharks, and two dabs.

It was a lovely evening to be out

I called it a day just before High water and came ashore just in time to see the sun set.

Hopefully out with Rushworth tomorrow afternoon.... chasing an early silver or two (fingers crossed anyway!!!)
