:gp: :gp: :gp: Couldn't agree more on the pumping :gp: :gp: :gp:
The last 3 times I've been down to my regular spot I've seen 12,4 and 7 OTHER pumpers. A couple of years back there'd have been maybe 1 person. During a recent visit a couple of weeks back I also saw one 'expert' seemingly giving tuition to about 12-15 others who were all stood around watching carefully as pumper 1 extracted Blacks for them to watch, before letting them all loose on every unsuspecting worm on the beach-of course this led to about 100 worms successfully pumped between all of them in over an hour and about 1000 chopped and left to die underground.NO beach can sustain that kind of hammer week in week out.
Its a worrying trend and thankfully many give up after a couple of goes due to being crap at it to be frank or the situation would be worse. I completely agree that maybe a few months' annual closure would be of long term benefit to us all.

I was fishing the wall today and was talking to a chap fishing next to me. He was telling me you cannot anchor anywhere from No7 bouy to the harbour to reduce fishing in the bass nursery. I'm not sure where he got his information. Does anyone know if this is true?

Kinda true.... you can anchor there, just not fish for bass, or use sandeel for any species... Bit daft really, you could fish there for flounder using crab  ;)

That's partly true and part of the existing bye-law for the bass nursery area.

"Fishing for bass from any vessel, as well as, fishing for any species of sea-fish using sand-eels (ammodytidae) as bait, is prohibited for all or part of the year"

Hi Dannyboy, I have removed a couple of bits of your post, whilst they may be true, unfortunately we have to be a little careful on an open forum. Hope you understand.

Regarding policing it, i think the idea is that in the past people have seen officers coming and any undersized bass were quickly thrown back, meaning that they didn't have any evidence to prosecute (According to the initial info we were sent). If and when the new byelaw is introduced, if they are seen with fishing gear in the area they should be able to do something about it... Note the word "should" ???

I don't want to sound dimmer than I am BUT.. Is the ban in place now or is it still proposed, all the literature I have seen mention the words "proposed bylaw" I don't want to be the first :o
