Re: If Carlsberg did fishing meets....
Cheers guys, it was a great day wasn't it? Hard to do with such dismal fishing but it worked out just as well as if there'd been a fish fest.
I nearly didn't make it as I was at deaths door during the night, spewing my guts up at 3am. Don't know where THAT came from but with 3 kids at 3 schools they do bring these things home Anyway I got there on an overdose of Ibuprofen and any other pain relief I could lay my hands on. I had to get out of the house when the pies went in the oven as I couldn't stand the smell of food. Fortunately I'm made of pretty stern stuff and by the time we were in the car my appetite had begun to return Still spent the day with aches & pains and really only on about 50% power all day .
No point in discussing the fishing,as Dave says the baits were coming in untouched all day. Its a great leveller though, with so few fish about there's nothing the very best can do but hope, everyone has a chance and it worked out brilliantly with Russ lasting out the whole meet (even a half hour of Fergie time) to hold all comers off. Not many times youll win a Greys rod in a 30+ angler match for a Flounder so it just shows how hard it was and all credit to Russ and indeed anyone who managed to find a solitary fish in about the most lousy conditions it could have turned out to be.
The food kept us all busy, most of the match was spent dashing between rods and the frying pan but it was worth the effort I think. Those pies were a slight mistake-the wife couldn't find any pie trays at short notice in town but grabbed what she thought were pie trays. They turned out to be takeaway trays and resulted in 1lb + pies but nobody complained too much!!!!
It all soon runs to expense so a round of applause to everyone who knocked up brews/sausage butties, curry and of course my wifes stack of home baking !!! Great that a bunch of anglers can get together in crappy conditions that they'd not normally even fish in and give their time/food/cash to such a great cause, over £400 is a superb effort and shows AA can compete with any other site when we put our minds to it
I blanked as most did,not a touch or sniff of a touch all day but pleasingly for once it seemed few if anyone cared at all, hopefully itll be a firm foundation for more meets, theyve been sorely missed.
Finally your little lass looks lovely Mike, she's got a look of you already Future angler

Absolutely brilliant day, big thanks to stevie g and rushy for organising and letting me tag along with them. It was great to finally meet a lot of the addicts in person, what a great bunch of lads. What legends the blanko family are the food was fantastic and I went home about a stone heavier. Congrats to grandad russ on winning ,a deserved winner. A brilliant day and can't wait for the next one.
