If your thinking of using one in a swimming pool you'll be fine, I'm being serious, they just don't cut it when there is any amount of wind around, if you don't believe me have a chat with the RNLI, they could do with a good laugh.
If you want a kayak get a plastic one 12 foot or longer, but don't go under 12 foot as they don't track very well, longer the better
