It's just a perfec day Morecambe Bay the plaice to be.
Decided to have a solo session today trying to find where the plaice have been hiding, perfect boating conditions light Southerly wind warm then glorious sunshine. My usual plaice hunting ground has changed beyond recognition due to the tide scouring away the beach and Chanel.Everything packed into my 13ft Dory with a 18hp Tahatsu 4stoke to propel us along, new rigs, cooker, boxes of tackle ect. Tide was 0300hrs so in bed by 9 and up at 0200hrs on the slip by 0300, very dark no moon so everything looks scary when you set off, arrived a short distance away on a sand bank chucked in and only managed a few ting then a plaice of size.
As soon as the dawn broke the plaice came on to feed keeping my two rods busy it was about three and a half hrs on the ebb now the best time for the plaice as they start to converge in the channels. I was going to try my usual mark but a shrimp boat put paid to that after 3/4 passes I thought there's no point. Just before low water Martin Foxcroft appeared on the shore, so beached the boat and had a fishing chat, he had bagged a few decent plaice. As the tide turned I set off again to fish the flood on a sandbank this proved productive with the best plaice of the day, had to use 7ounce to keep my bait on the bottom, 8.5 tide and running fast. I stayed out till 1600 hrs so a very long day for me but a happy angler.
Bait re frozen black this bait has been in and out of the freezer several times , the plaice just love it so keep any old black to one side and go plaice fishing with it.
Pics of the day and the one with Martin he thought he was auditioning for a job as a bouncer ha ha.
