kayak fishing
when is the best time to launch? and how long would you be out there before the tide turned? hopefully getting a kayak soon and will be trying it out at heysham when its a bit warmer as i only have a wetsuit at the moment.don't want to be going out to far as a novice i will be staying close to shore and only venturing out on calm days a bit nervous and I've not even got it yet any advice please will be mainly spinning close to shore at heysham till i get me confidence to venture futher afield

Re: kayak fishing
What you need to look at really is the state of the tide, from where you are launching, VS where you are going.
If you wanted to fish around halfmoon bay/throbshire point area with a flooding tide you need to launch half moon bay and work down towards throbshire going with the tide, then come back up once the tide has turned.... What time you wanted to launch would depend on how long you wanted to fish....
Trying to paddle against the tide off heysham is bloody hard work.... even on relatively small tides. So you need to plan where you are going, so that you are going with the tide
If you get one, give me a shout, ill come out with you

Re: kayak fishing
if you think kayak fishing is expensive then try buying your own boat, some of the things we have had to buy near gave me a heart attack, must admit I've always fancied a go on a kayak but a bit long in the tooth now

I know only too well mate Had two then got a kayak
Relatively speaking, its a cheap way to get afloat.... but all my stuff probably cost around £2k by the time i finished.... You can obviously do it much cheaper than that by buying second hand though.
