Leeds and Liverpool Canal,Halsall

Postby Riccardo El Paxo » 20 Jul 2011, 00:03

Weather improved a bit this afternoon apart from the odd light showers.Got there about 4pm this afternoon, saw someone's fishing, went to have a chat.To my surprise,he's a friend that I not see for a few years that I used to go shore and boat fishing with.
By the time I tackle up and ready to fish,it was almost 5pm,and the tow was so strong that almost impossible to nail the bait on the deck with any decent presentation.Instead, I just trot a bread punch off the bottom for a few small roach for the first couple hours until about 7pm when the tow stopped :?
Eventually,I manage to catch a few better fish on pellets :D Couple bream(1 over 3lb),a tench(lost 2 :banghead: ),a few skimmers/hybrid and a couple very nice roach :D

Not have roach that size from the canal for over a year :D

After that decent roach last week,I went back for more late this afternoon with a handful of hemp and slice of bread :D
Fished with hemp and bread punch over loose feed hemp.Had couple dozen of roach on hemp(most are "netter") with a few are over 10-12oz+,also caught a nice bream and a decent hybrid on punch :D

What a beautiful afternoon 8-)

Another decent bag Ray, some quality fish in that net mate :thumb: Looks a lovely clean water with not much weed ??? I'd be tempted to drag a plug or two after the pike, do you ever get bothered by any chasing your hooked fish?
Make a difference - take home one piece of someone's angling litter next time you are out fishing

Nice 1 Ray, you get more fish out of the canal than most people get out of the stocked ponds :thumb: :thumb: :gp:

Leeds and Liverpool is quite weed free until you getting near Liverpool.Unlike the Lancaster, shallow and weedy.

Yes,there're pikes but they don't usually bother me until early winter when the roach starting shoal up at certain areas.

I know there's an U-boat look alike barge on Leeds & Liverpool, near Adlington. But this is the first time I'd seen it on the move

Anyhow, back to fishing.I was there about 5:30pm,just after I fed the swim and ready to fish at around 6pm.The monsoon arrived, big time :banghead: It was that heavy,I was just hidding under the brolly, doing nothing but fed the swim couple more times until the rain stopped about 7:30pm :banghead:

Eventually,I had about hour and a half of fishing. It was pretty good, fish a chuck :D A few bream,a few skimmer,a few decent roach and a nice tench :D

Another successful session on the canal, well done I have been thinking of taking my pole on the Lancaster canal for a few weeks now, must get out there and give it a try.
