Luke’s first boat trip
Onyer Marks for Luke’s first boat trip
I’ve wanted to take Luke out for his first ever boat trip for a while now and last week we finally did it !
I opted for The Onyer Marks charters team and booked just me and him onto Matty Burrett’s boat for the day . I’ve fished with these guys for years so trusted them with firstly making Luke feel safe and comfortable and secondly putting us on fish
We launched in the morning and headed for mackerel with me nervously keeping an eye of Luke for signs of green leans
I needn’t have worried as he was having a whale of a time on the mackerel
Bait gathered we decided to head for some fun on the pollock. What a fantastic session ensued ! With a bit of coaching from myself and the skipper Luke had the float working to a fine art . The fish came thick and fast
He then hit something different , I passed comment to the skipper that I didn’t think it was a pollock .... sure enough a flash of silver surging below the surface gave away the culprit . A cracking bass that had Luke all around the boat and made some tremendous runs . After a nervous few minutes we had his prize abroad ... an absolute beauty !! A pleasure to see such a cracking fish .
It was then back onto the pollock again before we reluctantly decided to put the light gear away and do some bottom fishing ... conditions weren’t right for heading offshore so we found some shelter and hoped for something decent .....
The weed was bad after the recent bad weather but we did manage to keep the fish coming ... mostly dogs but we also had a few Huss to double figures before home time rolled around ...
I’ll finish this report with a few thanks...
Huge thanks to the Onyer Marks team and Matty Burrett in particular. It’s always a pleasure to fish with you mate .
Thanks to Muntloch Croft B&B for looking after us so well .... we will be back
Thanks to Gerry’s for Luke’s new hoodie and all the bits and pieces of gear they’d got in for me and for the savage gear inline trolling rod you gave us to have a play with ...
it’s a lovely bit of kit, would recommend it

Re: Luke’s first boat trip
Cheers everyone !!
Luke’s still on cloud nine
What a first bass for the jammy little sod
And he managed to get through first tip without any ground baiting so hopefully years of fishing on boats with him to come
