MERIT 1 ANCHORS AWAY 23.01.11.
by Admin Today at 18:50

.Kirsty 111 and merit 1 left douglas harbour at 10am this morning ,both heading south to the ling and cod marks .the pool for the day however was for Pollock which we will get to later .The sea was calm and although a bit nippy it was good to be back out on the waves .There was a 10metre tide today which meant that drifting over marks was going to be swift and numerous .As expected nothing much showed here other than a couple of small pollock .

Merit 1 had the idea of putting the anchor down to try and stay on the mark, what they forgot to do was tie the anchor rope off and as they put the anchor yanker on and threw it over the side no one realised that the rope and anchor dissappeared into the depths of the irish sea.I was aked not to put this on here very politely ,but i am not that kind of person so on here it is .

we moved from this mark into Castletown bay onto a black bream mark where our efforts to catch one did not materialise, although we all caught a coalfish and Micheal caught a bollan wrasse. We moved slightly away from here onto our pollock mark and although we were catching them none of them were of any great size with our largest only weighing in at 3lb .7ozs ,and was caught by Woodys new kayak partner Cam Sayle .Merit 1 fishing virtually along side us caught the largest pollock of the day which weighed in at 4lb.9.5ozs and so took the all the money on the day .

On our way back to douglas we both stopped at another cod mark and merit1 had little success here and each of us on kirsty111 managed to get a cod each with Skip Micheal getting the largest weighing in at 3lb.5.5ozs (cod and curry sauce for him tommorrow ).It was a had days fishing in that fish were hard to come by ,but at least we were able to enjoy a good day out.Not many pictures i,m afraid but enough to temp your taste buds .
Micheal did however tried to claim a £1 back from me saying his cod was larger than my pollock ,however the private pool of the day was pollock and this turned into a draw as we both landed fish of 49cms ,so pool drawn and i remain £2 up ,(unlucky Micheal).

So that's what a cod looks like! :yeah2: cheers for that Jamie :thumb:

Looked a great day to be out and about on the water :speed: I've lost an anchor in the past too, though it was when we were hauling it in and the engine failed  Good on yer for sharing the calamity!

Cheers for the report too :thumb:
