Morecambe on the boat 23/08/2015
With a bit of a gap in the weather and promises of 3mph easterlies from XCweather i had to give it a go....
With knockbacks from a couple of the usual suspects, i decided to go it alone - After the week id had, maybe thats what i needed anyway!!
High water was at 4.15am SO with being on my own didn't want to leave things too late, and end up rushing. Alarm set for 4am, left the house at 430.... It was DARK!! When i say DARK.....
I decided to have a slow run down to a little mark i have within a mile of the slip to let the sun wake up, and get the gear set up. It wasnt long before he was peeping over the hills
I had a couple of good bites here, that were dropped, then hit into a decent fish which I was hoping was a decent bass due to where i was..... Turned out to be a reasonable smoothhound, which flipped its tail at the side of the boat and disappeared to the depths!
With the tide dropping and bites drying up it was time to move!
Caught plenty of fish, just not really what i was after. Tonnes of Dogfish!! An odd Smoothy thrown in, but nothing big.
Late morning the rain moved in - Thankfully i was prepared for this, and had got myself a Team Vass Heavy duty Smock the day before - Ideal for the boat where you don't really need it to be breathable. Looks a bit like a rubbery wader material but much more flexible, and doesnt look like it could lose its water resistance like goretex etc do........ Certainly did the business yesterday!!

You Can see the rain!!! These two pictures remind me of that video where the blokes are fishing and a plane lands behind them....
Sick to death of the doggies, and an hour after low water i decided to fish the flood back up the in Morecambe for a few Plaice. Getting back up the bay was a little tricky. Need to check it out on dead low on a big tide i think, but there is very little water off the pipeline any more... Touched a couple of times trying to get through and it was a smallish tide.... Possibly another result of all the sea defences!!!
Eventually got there anyway!! A couple of lads fishing the end of thornton rd skear (Might have been Allithwaite angler reading his report)
After a little rig adjustment to drop the hook sizes and make a bit of a wishbone rig, I was straight into them, double header on the first cast
This one almost pulled the rod over lol Almost 2.5lb
Brew time lol
The 2.5lber is the one on the right, ended up with 3 similar size, lovely thick fish

I didn't try that hard to be honest but it was kinda nice to just potter about out there and not worry too much about finding the fish for the crew lol
At least now i know i can launch and recover on my own too, theres been an odd day midweek when a last minute trip could have been on the cards.... might get out a bit more hopefully
