MSA Mersey Trip Jensen Jan 2015
Milnrow Sea Anglers
Mersey Sat 17th Jan 2015 and 5 members PW DL AJ BT JA were all that made it on the trip with one late cancelation.
Nice sailing time of 8:45 meant we left a snowy Rochdale at 7:30 for a ride down the M62 to sail from Liverpool Marina
We locked out at 9:00 and 10 minutes later we were casting our Lug and Squid baits and watching those Rod tips.
Didn’t take long and my rod showed the signs of a bite which didn’t connect so re-bait and cast ,wait watch and another bite which this time connected . A nice codling of around two and a half ponds soon had me smiling.
Darren landed a codling which made the bucket but next time he checked it he found it had a hitch hiker a small male Lumpsucker was flapping away in the bottom of the bucket, after a quick photo call it was on its way to look for another host. Sorry Darren but I don’t think it will make the species list .
Fish were coming all around the boat with Tony hanging back for bets but eventually everyone had a fish on board
I had 4 in the bucket by 10: 30 and Jim was also catching some nice fish in the 3 pound range
Slack tide and we crossed the river to the Wirral side where we added a few Whiting and dabs to the tally
Best fish o the day was 3 lbs 14 ozs so first trophy to Jim Ashton who narrowly beat Jason who was in the lead for a while with a fish of 3 lbs 12 ozs.
Jim ended up with 10 Codling keeping 6 the same as me but everyone was smiling.
We avoided the worst of the weather which looked a bit bleak towards perch rock and only had a brief shower.
The Brews kept coming all day and the Chicken Curry was excellent, Thanks Julie!.
Great trip with Tony on Jensen to start the year around 40 codling some Whiting and Dabs not to forget the Lumpsucker!
