North East kayak fishing competition
On Friday I took a drive over to the dark side and entered the North East kayak fishing comp for the weekend weather was ok but windy I took lots of crab, squid and black lug fishing was very hard going drifting and paddling back the Saturday comp was won with a Pollock just under 7llb and out of 40 kayaks not many fish were caught I blanked but got some sidewinder lures for taking part so not bad
Then we were up early sunday keeping an eye on the wind as it was due to pick up to 28mph gusts one launch point at newbiggin was closed and they decided it was ok to carry on with a different launch point under some cliffs so we were sheltered from the wind a little out of 24 kayaks not one single fish was weighed in
one fella did catch a dab of about a 1llb and a half and as he lifted it up to ask his mate if it could be weighed in it wriggle and grabbed the break for freedom he was gutted if hed have kept it he could have walked away with a tarpon 120 so the organisers decided to raffle the prize list except the kayak on our booking in numbers and I was the first pulled out and won a new pfd not a good weekend for fish but met some great fellas and had a good laugh oh well maybe next year
