Not such an amazing finish to my summer season
Day 1 24th October 2017 Lepe Beach by the Dolphins AKA Mullberry harbour for the D-day landings.
Well having not been fishing for a few weeks I had planned on hitting the ‘Big beach’ that is Chesil on my 8 days off. We were in the grip of another storm & I didn’t think I’d get away. However the weather man said by Wednesday the 25th it would be dropping off. Plans were made for a 2 day sortie down that there South to try for my new nemesis the undulate ray. I then got a text of Gazza (Stakenchips) to ask if I fancied meeting up Wednesday. Perfect I thought I’m heading down any way. Well to cut it short we talked ourselves into meeting Tuesday at Gazza’s, fish Tuesday night down Lepe Gazza offered to put me up Tuesday night n we’d hit the big beach Wednesday afternoon.
I had a good trip down and I found Gazzas gaff with ease. He then proceeded to feed me, and it didn’t stop until we parted company in the early hours of Thursday morning (I went home a stone heavier lol) Needless to say I was looked after like a king & I cannot thank Gazza enough for that.
Anyway I digress, back to the fishing. With a strong Westerly blowing Gazza picked a mark that would leave the wind blowing over out heads. It was Lepe beach I think the mark was called ‘The dolphins’ nice deep water and some good features for the fish to hang around.
Gazza dropped me off with he gear & headed back to park his car. A brief 5 minute walk and we were on our mark.
Target was to be any kind of fish with the hope of rays. Bait here was frozen blacks & squid * sand eel, with the odd frozen peeler thrown in. I fished at distance & close in. We were fishing the ebb with some flood.
Having had the obligatory £3 bet (first to catch, biggest fish, & most species) we were both in the water for 1700hrs.
The first fish didn’t turn up until 1900hrs in the form of a doggie for me
It was slow going but I was soon into a few tiddlers even tho I I was using big hooks & big baits.
Pout were about so I put the old live bait stiffy rig on and waited, & waited & waited. I then landed a nice double of a pout and a pup.
Gazza eventually joined in but must have been to embarrassed for me to snap a few pictures lol.
The fishing wasn’t great but the food was plentiful and it was a nice pleasant evenings fishing. A new mark for me and I’ll deffo have a go there again.
Day 2
25th October 2017 Abbotsbury in front of the cottages.
For a change the weather man got it spot on. It was a lovely warm day in fact I fished the afternoon with. My top off (don’t worry I moved the whalers on)
Again we were fishing the last of the ebb and all the way up and over the top. It really was a great day weatherwise.
The fishing however was I different story, the beach was rammed I actually flew the drone up to and passed the car park (1.5km) there were rods every 20 yards.
The Pout were out in serious numbers, they were a lot bigger & I landed one of 1lb10oz but that was about it really. In fact it was that big I initially thought it was my 1st cod of the season.
We fished on until 2300hrs and called it a day. I was stopping and was going to fish the hi tide @ 0900hrs in the morning. Gazza was heading home. Well after he had parted with his Cash lol.
Fishing wise it wasn’t a great time, in that we didn’t find anything big. There were plenty of fish but not what we were after. I only fished 3 hrs in the morning for more dogs & pout. So I called it a day around 1100hrs n headed back up North.
Thanks very much Gazza for looking after me so well. You’d be more than welcome up here anytime, I live 102 miles away for my nearest beach but anytime you fancy a change and do some blanking up here you’re welcome lol.
Thanks for reading guys until next time Tight lines
