Ocean prowler 13

Found one at 500 new 13.4ft just wondering about the stability of it. I'm 6.2ft 12stone and ould most likely be going out of 5 bar and jigging in summer on anglesey.

quite a stable fishing platform good alrounder . not a lot of paddling needed for clevleys so speed don't really matter.

Youll have no problems mate. Height does come into it a bit, the more you lean the more the extra height can give you a wobble but the first time you over-lean and get a squeaky bum moment you realise you have to be on the ball in a yak. I'm 6'2" and 16st and haven't had problems even in the OK Caper that my daughter uses. You can turn any yak over in a careless moment but for general fishing use there's not much better than the Prowler 13

The Prowler hull is a good balance, leaning slightly toward the stability side rather than speed but itll move well enough. I think most would recommend it :thumb:

Cheers fella, I've had a look at the big game alswell but have been told to avoid if possible due to its size. Stability is great from what I've heard but is like a matress to paddle out.

Yeah the Big Game IS hard work - I've got one :)

It doesn't paddle in a straight line in even the slightest current, needs about 5kg of anchor to hold in the bay, is a pig to make ANY headway into even the merest hint of tide run and weighs a flippin ton to get on the car roof or worse, drag down the beach on a trolley-speaking of which its very hard to get to sit right on a C Tug due to the hull shape.

THAT SAID............... its like the QE2 to fish from, all the stability in the world and room to fit anything you want. With the current behind you it moves very nicely due to having so bloomin much of it for the tide to catch ! I must admit when I've taken our smaller yak out it makes me realise I'm not that incompetent a paddler, its just the Big Game is a barge but when it gets a tad choppy its reassuring !

Given hindsight I think Id have gone for a longer yak but hindsight's great isn't it? Id say if youre going paddling in a boating pool the Big Game might be fun but battling out into a current its a no no, the Prowler has it hands down on most scores :thumb:

can't see a link mate, can you add one?

The Prowler range is very large, insomuch as it's been tweaked so many times, there's the Trident range, Ultra and the Prowler's are specced at 4.1m too, different ones have had different storage options specced. The latest ones have the lift/turn/fish rod pod in the middle, where you can mount a few things, turn them over for paddling out then turn the lid to fishing position once youre ready. But there's a lot of difference in storage options.

The Big game is low on standard storage - at least accessible storage , you probably don't really want to be crawling down the yak to the front hatch in 30ft of moving water so it's whats to hand that's important really. I fitted the large square hatch on my Big Game plus numerous Scotty mounts so there's stacks of storage now

A lot of the Prowlers were fitted with a 6"or 8" (I think!!) cam lock hatch just in front of the seat, the large front hatch and the odd 'drink holder' That's probably enough for anyone as the rear can hold a large crate etc for the fish and/or other gear. You can stash most bigger stuff in the front like trolley etc, things you need to hand can be in the crate behind you , in a little tackle box or you can usually get a solid pot to fit the hatches so you can store a few rigs/leads etc in there. Having the big centre hatch does make life easier but its not the end of the world :)

That's the one I was thinking of :)

Storage hatch in front of the paddler, bungee to hold a small Plano type box down, get a crate behind you and youre sorted for storage really, if going for new its the right money too, its usually only the less mainstream/less popular models youll find discounted. The Prowler 13 in that guise is I think discontinued, the Elite 4.1 has very similar spec if I recall correctly but thatll be £200 more ???

Looks a good buy, I bought new and waited for bargains, I think we got our Caper Angler from Shore too, they were good to deal with, though couriers tend to be a bit naff when it comes to delivering Yaks on the day they say they will!!!
