OMG it's Early! 01/12

Padsta's ever increasing obsession for catching a codling hit new heights, following countless phone calls, "we chat" calls, SMS's, MMS's Texts & tweets I finally succumbed, and agreed to go boating.

Secretly I was quite up for it, it gave me the excuse to go to Gerry's and treat myself to a new outfit. Got one of those IMAX thermal ones. Now I know some of you out there will be thinking I should've got a floatation suit.
Well you might be right but when you're fishing with a "super Hero" cum "4th emergency service" you know he'll save you regardless of personal danger!

So Tel arrived at 05.30, now I'd insisted he travel light. Those of you that know tel know he travels with every piece of fishing kit he owns!
Imagine my surprise when he passes me a carrier bag and three rods!
Minimalist or what! I'd got more buns & bacon than he had tackle!!!

Off we went, launched at green street in near total darkness, mainly cos Tels carrier bag didn't have his head torch in it.
Once afloat we keyed in the coordinates and headed to a secret location just off the Stone Jetty.

Weighed anchor (2lbs) and rods in.
Straight away we were into Dabs & Flounder but no codling!
Then the whiting arrived , and in with the smaller ones came some good sized ones as well.

Low water and things quietened off, time for bacon butty's and a brew.
While we were enjoying the grub we took the time to discuss the make up and demography of the catholic faith.
And Tel your still Wrong!!!

First run of the tide, Tels convinced we're going to get codling, I've brought the "supersize" landing net in order to be sure I get his fish on board.
It's a bit slow to start but as darkness falls it's chaotic!
Dabs, flounder, whiting, fish two at a time none stop.
It was fun, but tel still hadn't caught a codling.
Every bite that "feels like a cod" just turned out to be another whiting!

Then as we entered the last half hour a bite!
The rod bent right over.
This has to be a codling!
Tels face took on a serious look!
Oh yeah it's a codling, a 43cm codling the prettiest codling I've ever seen.............
And it's mine!
Ha ha sorry tel better luck next time!!

Image

We called it a day at around 6.45pm we had a boat load of fish!
Headed back to green st boat out and on the trailer smoothly and off we went.
That was my first time boating at night on the bay and enjoyed it.
I took my codling, 2 whiting and 2 dabs for tonight's tea and that left tel with enough fish to feed most of China!!

A great account of the day Frank, you forgot the bit where you nearly went overboard :lmao: :lmao: and as if you need any encouragement to go fishing.A bit like asking a junki if he wants a hit.Still trying for that elusive cod :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: may be Thursday if my pain racked body can take another trip.Plenty of bacon buns cooked by the Skippers fair hands and brews galore ,mind you it was a tad nippy. Thanks for a memorable day. :speed: :speed: :gp: :gp: :gp: :gp:
