Out from Morecambe yesterday - Lucas James

Postby Paul » 01 Dec 2014, 11:21

Rushy is always bollocking me for not taking enough pictures!!! Made up for it yesterday...

Saturday morning Id checked the forecast and Sunday was looking ok for a trip out. I peered out of the window and spotted Petes car was there so popped across....he was in the shower so Mrs Pete said she would send him over once he was done.....

He didn't need much persuading, and he was quickly on the phone to Jimsta to blag some bait... :thumb: :thumb: Cheers James :thumb: :thumb:

Up at 5 ish Sunday morning for an early dart to catch the tide....
Image

It was pretty lumpy first thing with the wind in the west-Nwest and the tide ebbing.... and in the pitch black it was interesting to say the least. I think Pete was wondering what he had let himself in for at this point.

Decided to give it an hour near the pipeline and let the sun get up a bit, and the wind drop as the forecast had suggested.

This turned out to be a good shout.... First three casts resulted in two codling, and a third dropped...

Image

We must have just caught the tail end of them moving off the bank, as after the first couple we just got whiting...

Image

Image

Once it came light the wind dropped and moved around to the north - Amazingly the forecast was pretty spot on!! We decided to move down and Fish the hump for an hour as it still looked a little lumpy further out. Not quite as hectic here but we got plenty of whiting again, and a few dabs.

Image

A move to a mark further out resulted in much of the same, we stuck it out to fish the first couple of hours of the flood but just whiting and dogfish appeared. Although some of the whiting were of a good size

Puckering up to do his Rex hunt impression ;)

It was turning into a nice day, but that sun was at an awkward position - skewing the engine helped a little but it was torture for a while...

Image

As i say some of the whiting were good fish!!

We decided to finish off the day back near the slip, just to see if there was an odd very late Plaice knocking about seen as it had been so mild....
Image

It was like a millpond by this point, and a nice end to the day

We didn't see any Plaice, but had a couple of flounder. Fishing with a wishbone rig, with small hooks, and the rod almost took off from the back of the boat which resulted in another codling of about 3lb - I think Pete has a picture of that....

All in all a good day out, would have preferred a few more codling but still happy with the result.

Great report Paul, looks like it turned out a decent day :thumb:
I toyed with the idea to launch from knott end but wimped out in the end. Think the morning forecast would have been too much for my open boat
I'm envious now after looking at the pics :thumb:

Brill post Paul :gp:
That boat is stunning, could you use it on the canal?
It'd be nice in summer doing a pub crawl in it plus some nice canal fishing.

It WAS ROUGH early on, made worse by it being dark......... Had eased off though by about 9am it was fairly flat. We had a run out a couple of miles into the bay and it wasnt too bad.

I guess....trouble is tick over would put you over the speed limit    and there isnt much manoeuvrability at very slow speeds ???

Cheers for all the other comments :thumb: :thumb: Made up with the boat, runs spot on... did some of the chores last night like flushing the engine and trailer brakes but had left washing the boat until today. Lifting the cover it seems to have lost the New boat smell and been replaced with a more familiar aroma :fish: :fish: :fish:
