Padsta and Frank have split. Only kidding.
After a blustery Mon Tue We'd the weather eased so a trip was envisaged. After spending vast amounts of money getting my new old engine serviced by a professional Mr Jim Cookson it was time to give it a run in the wet stuff. Made arrangements with Frank, spent all afternoon making sure I got everything in the boat, kitchen sink and all cooker boxes bags oars anchor landing net ect ect. It's amazing how much gear you can get in without Frank taking up valuable space. Arrived at the slip at 0900 Frank already in the water he's only been there since 0800. I launched with no problems and fired up the engine all well and headed for my chosen plaice Mark. We fished high on the bank to start with, the fishing was slow to start but soon picked up as the tide ebbed we agreed to only take fish over 36cm. A steady stream of fish came to my snotty manky black.
When the water depth got to a metre it was time to move to the main channel. Set up and the fishing improved greatly I was using a two hook flapper with size one Aberdeens and multiple re frozen black. We were using light tackle spinning rods and 12 lb line, great fun when yo get a two pound plaice on the end. The size of the plaice got bigger and bigger up to 43cm all in prime condition, when they see the boat they really start to fight hard.. All this action on the ebb tide we still had the flood to go yet.
When the tide reached low it was time to fire up my dragon, now Frank and I haven't fished to often during the summer so our sausage bellies have shrunk so wanting to maintain our Adonis features we opted for hot dogs and boiled onions with lashings of Tommy Sauce.
After 4 of these and some cake we were ready for the flood tide. The tide flooded gently in with a beautiful sunset and the fish woke with a vengence.
The plaice were coming thick and fast we started returning all fish caught even up to 43 cm I've never done this before my arms were aching absolutely warn out. There were 15 anglers on the mussel beds they weren't doing to well I think the fish were just out of reach. When the light faded it was like someone had turned the light off the plaice stopped feeding and the tiny whiting came on to feed. So time to pack up and head for the slipway after the most rememberable days fishing for a long time. I forgot this one for you sausage munchers.
