Returnee after 15yr layoff
Hi All, I’m another returnee after a 15/20 year lay off. Used to fish a lot of matches with a certain club (who will remain un-named) until a big falling out and I just didn’t want to bother again!
However, I have now retired and a mate decided he wanted to start sea fishing so I’m back.
Still got my old Zziplex (NG1 & Bass) and Century rods but decided to buy a new ‘Continental’ style rod a Tronix Pro Xenon Match. I’m not convinced it’s as good as my NG1 yet, bite detection is virtually non-existent in comparison. Paired it up with a new Akios 656 CTM – almost as good as my ABU 6500.
My mobility isn’t brilliant (although not actually disabled, so no blue badge) and so I’m looking for the easier options now, my days of marching out at Talacre or scrambling over the rocks on Anglesey are long gone.
Places I used to fish are now closed – Glasson Dock, Heysham harbour and wall. I used to be able to drive to the end of the Stone Jetty for a night session but now only for disabled. Used to drive onto Blackpool Prom but now need a parking permit (which I’ll get in September). One of my favourite venues in North Wales.(Trefor Pier) is gone (had a few good Bull Huss on there).
Seems the target species has changed a bit from years ago with Rays and Hounds the norm. The only place I caught Rays from the shore used to be Ireland.
No doubt you’ll see me on the prom when I get my parking permit but till then I’ll settle for Preston Dock, Greenodd and Sandside.
