Rockaway Reels! Watch Catching Fish on Them in Hawaii!

Currently There Are 3 Models Available From Okuma!

A 6K & 2 8K's! The Rockaway Spinning Reels were originally designed to compliment the Rockaway Surf Rods. But can be used for any spin-casting rods. There's currently 2 8000 models and the original 6000. At a show i show cased the original 6K. A year latter the 8K was released. A few more years went by before the 8K Bait feeder was introduced.

For many years i've used both sizes off piers & the Hawaiian shorelines with great success in hauling in fish. All 3 units holds a lot of line & has a respectable max drag rating. Since i'm not into live-baiting or cat fishing i had no need of the 8K Bait feeder model. Plus i release most of my catch & a hook in the belly of a live fish can complicate this. I've ofter been asked how i can fish using braid?

Simple, i tend to use long length rods that tend to be stiff so i can keep my rod tip high to force the head from going down. Nobody has ever seen me get caught on the reef or having my braided line get scratched-up. I did before by not setting the tensioner correctly & using "wimpier" rated rods. Recently i found out my friend Mark Gonsalves fishes EXACTLY the same way i do! I was floored.

I don't preach this because i had to become accustomed to this style myself. Now i do have rigs with mono on them. Specially done for areas of high coral formations to underwater debris like steel girders to A-frames. Usually within bays or off piers & structures.

I always got "rubbed" for fishing mostly braid but it's my style that i do well with. That means most days or nights i'm going home with fish to give away to neighbors & friends. But i never force the way i fish on others. I present it & most tend to incorporate that into their rigs. This way if the big GT rigs don't produce the medium rigs will. Always nice to bring something home:)
