Rossal School Tope Friday 3rd PM

Postby Dave » 05 Jun 2011, 09:58

Ok first post and first time out on my own Yak after being introduced and hooked to it following an outing on the south coast with a friend.

Decided to launch at Rossal School at 8pm and fished for 2.5hours before the sun disappeared. Fished approx 1mile straight out and had bites from the off, 3 small dabs were caught as well as 1 tope probably around the 5lb mark.

Not sure of the depth we were fishing at as no fishfinder and few accessories at the moment having shelled out for the kayak and essential safety/fishing equipment.

One query i do have is - the tide was flooding from south to north as I have read is the norm however the very small waves were approaching from the west. The kayak anchored from the back was aligned with the current which meant we were side on to the waves. this wasn't an issue due to size of waves but i imagine it could be? Id be interested to know the solution to this and also if anybody is going out on the fylde coast and willing for me to tag along with them on a kayak trip it would be much appreciated!

Great first post mate    Welcome to the site :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Usually if there are waves side on the kayak sits half and half with the tide and wind. Unfortunately the isnt a right lot you can do about the waves being side on but a small drogue can help the kayak sit more with the tide rather than half and half.

Theres a few lads on here who have kayaks and fish Rossall area (myself included!!) Keep in touch as to when you are out and we might be able to get a bit of a meet between us :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
