Have had my bait pump quite a while, bought it from Gerrys years ago its an alvey slim.
I would like to replace the washers with silicon ones but can't find any, anyone know where i could get them from?

It's easy to make your own, get some plastic pipe the same diameter of your pump cut it about half an inch in length and fill with silicon and leave to go off for a week and hey presto a silicon washer appears, then put a small hole in the middle to screw your wing nut back on. Have a look HERE

Re: silicon washers for alvey bait pump?
Hi Les,
Nice to see you visiting Angling Addicts matey. I hope you and Ruth are well.
IMO Making silicone washers aren't quite as simple as Tel would have you believe. They take an age to cure so much so that people have come up with allsorts of novel ideas to help the curing process. Like putting a bag of water over it. If you have used your pump cure it in your pump is out of action for the duration. I tried it once and after 10 days tried to push the newly formed washer out only to find it still hadn't cured. That was 10 days without a pump for nowt. I've heard of people making a sheet of silicone and pressing washers out with their pump once it has cured. Some of the guys down here use the sponge out of car seats and swear by it. I must admit I'm not convinced but they do a damn site more pumping than I do. I have reverted back to the original washers but I mainly pump blow lug and that is a much more delicate sort of pumping in relatively wet sand so not as much suction needed.
Hope this helps

Obviously the thicker the washer, the longer the silicon takes to go off, so if speed is a concern make up thinner washers and put 3 or 4 in instead of one thicker one, it'll do the same job
Others swear by making washers out of the hard rubber dog balls like these HERE, they say it holds lubricant longer and gives a smoother pump, worth an experiment at that price I would think?

West Coast Tackle sell homemade washers for a couple of quid. Worth a call on 01253 851001 if you don't fancy trying to make your own.

I use those dogs balls which are available from Pets At Home for £1 each....they work very well ...just slice off one end to make a flat surface, then put that over the end of your pump,pressing/twisting as it cuts right through, then cut off the other slightly curved end to give you a perfect fitting bung...job done in 5 mins

looking at those dog balls, they are made of rubber rather than silicon, anyone done a test between rubber and silicone or is it just the thickness of the washers that help.
I can get a decent suction on my pump, its just the reason for replacing them was that they are not as smooth a suction as they were, or is it just my imagination?

Hello i use the plastic centres out of insulation tape.( Black electric tape ) Just the right size.Fill it up let it set on one side then turn it over.Let that side set then put it on its side.Leave for about 2 weeks.Take it out then make another 1 till you have a good stock of them.
I always take a spare when pumping.
