Smashing Carp at High Thorn...
Dave and I nipped up to Selside again as he'd a free day with kids all at school or on trips away. The weather was stinking hot, probably not great conditions, but I'd a sneaking feeling we'd catch... We had a recce round the far side first, but settled on a big peg at the extreme north end. Bags of room and space to cast into...

Feeder for moi with inline and krill pellet, but Dave fancied something bigger so set up his carp rod on the rod pod I've had for as long as I remember...
He's on a heavy feeder to put some bait down. There were fish moving everywhere. Sounded like a water fight in the middle of the trees, huge splashes, fins cruising round and massive bow waves going all over the place..! I was a bit concerned that the fish might be in spawn/chill out mode and prove difficult to catch. This lasted until my feeder hit the water and the tip started nodding... Usual suspects at first...

Did that fish really try to eat that boilie..?? Greedy git....
Missed a few too among the many that came out... Then I got a real wrap round and something took off for the trees.... Had to really tighten the clutch down as far as I dared, but just simply couldn't stop it..! Took me 30 yards into the trees and locked solid. Dropped the rod down and felt it still nodding, but another great surge and all went slack. Smashed the hook link. Feeder retained.( result) So a bit of feather spitting and back to it...few more Rudd and roach, excellent golden Rudd again, and then another good pull. Went a lot harder on this fish, didn't feel as big as the other I'd lost...

Soon safely netted...

Beaut of a Tench, went to 5lb on the scales quick pic and safely back. Dave still getting knocks and beeps but no takes till back of 11 o'clock, then missed a decent run. I was again smashed by a big carp which bolted straight for the trees again, beginning to wonder if I was a bit under gunned for here, but this rod has played some good carp in the past, so persisted. At 12 I suggested to Dave that he put the feeder rod up as he was getting no action at all for some reason on the carp rod. Possibly resistance from the heavy feeder? We were using the same baits and the fish were obviously there..?? So he did and soon after his rod was nodding too...

I was still catching ( and missing) some quality silvers, and reds and golds (?) on most baits. The owner was curious as to what the heck fish knew about white chocolate..?? But I was catching on it so I left him bemused...

Then Dave got a good pull and his own rocket set off for the far end of the lake... He controlled it well and he too netted a lovely fish also at 5lb..??

Pic and back. We carried on till about 3, still catching, and the lake alive still with cruising splashing fish. I was convinced there was a carp trying to get up the tree opposite our peg.. Or was it just the sun... Great session, lot of fun with some quality silvers. Didn't use the float rod today, was busy enough...
