Southbourne Dorset,Slipper Limpet Session

Postby skatenchips » 06 Oct 2014, 12:06

After 3 weeks off I was gaggin for a session and the local shop said there was a few Sole showing @ Southbourne,so armed with small Rag and Blow Lug I made me way there last night for a 2 up 2 down do at them.

Just incase I brought some Slipper Limpet I had collected the day before thinking maybe the odd bass might show.

Image

On arrival the waves rolling in and the head on wind that I hadn't anticipated were crashing up the sand so sole were now low on the list.

Anyway,a 3 hook, size 4,s with small worm baits was cast close in over the first breakers and a Pompy looped size 1,s with Limpet and worm cast as far as.

Image

Oh well, first cast and blank avoided as this sprightly Bass rattles all the way in on my Light Tronixpro multi tip rod, which to be honest was meant for sole fishing was outgunned really as the waves were bending the tip too much, but hey ho,it was fun battling the conditions.
anyway,he went back..!!!!!

Image

Blimey, didn't expect this but very welcome a small slip sole which although me target hadn't thought would show in the conditions.

Image

As HW came I had another good pull over on the light rod and thinking it was another Bass I was gob smacked to see my 1st Codling of the season and especially from Southbourne as I didn't know they were
caught from this sandy venue......1lb 6oz on Slipper Limpet.

Image

I was bareley over the excitement of the first one when I had this one on Limpet and Lug at distance...1lb 4oz

Image

With HW came some rain and with the conditions worsening I was gonna
bail out but this double shot of codling kept me going.

Image

Cocktails of Limpet tipped with rag and lug seemed to be baits of choice.

Image

a small Dab was next at distance on worm.

Image

I couldn't bait up fast enough as bites were crazy, and as the tide dropped were was a ridge that I was losing fish on but this double shot gave me a lovely slack line bite and I was able to drag em up the sand.

Image

with the water disappearing I only had one more and my biggest
@ 1lb 12oz but that was it,01.30am I had been the only one on the beach
all evening and had enjoyed this unexpected Codling bounty.

Image

anyway, managed to land 9 and took these 6,and without doubt the killer edge was the Slipper Limpet so you can guess were I'm off to for a few more shell baits as soon as the rain eases off, without doubt my best nights codling fishing since moving to Dorset.

anyway what I had christened the "sands of doom" had relented and given me a terrific Autumn session.
