thornback rays at carsethorne 27 june to4 july
Had a weeks holiday at Carsethorne on the Solway Firth and the fishing was to say the least mixed .
We arrived on Saturday 27 June and within 10 minutes I was on the beach fishing the low tide,Within minutes of casting in I was into the first of 3 Thornies. I was using Bluey strips on a Pennall pulley rig.The first fish I would guesstimate at around the 6lb mark a nice male (photographed and released)
recast in an another steady pull down and into no 2 a female of around the 8lb mark again (photographed and released) recast in again and about 15 mins later the best fish of the day a good female of around the 10lb mark as you can imagine I was buzzing.I recast again but didn,t get another bite.
Sunday 28june fished the low tide again but struggled to get a touch, there was a guy fishing to the side of me who had 4 or 5 rays in about 2 hrs and his mate had a couple they were both using fresh peeler. Out of desperation (I had no peeler) I made a lug and squid rap flung it out 30 yards and waited, after a spell the tip pulled down and a fish was on. It felt like a monster but when I beached the fish it was a small female (about 5 or 6lb)who came in backwards, anyway no blank
Anyway tried fishing at different times during the week but no more fish. Don,t know wether it was the tides getting smaller or the sea being more coloured but didn,t get another bite .but didn,t care really ,If anybody would have said you,ll go there and catch rays I would have been over the moon.great location as well and only 2 1/2 hrs from Bury where I live . been trying for over 2hrs to get photos on but now lost the will to live. you can either believe me or dis believe me because I don,t care anymore
