unusual catch from the zigzag Dorset
So with dancing on tv I had to escape and as I had not caught any Rays from zigzag for months,i peered over the cliff and it looked ok......
2 sandeel baited rods were fired out......and a fillet of macky on the bass rod.......
the clutch started clicking on the bass rod and I thought here we go but the bite was well weird....lifted into it and begger me my 1st ever
squid on a baited hook....it was cleanly hooked too and is now in the fridge.
sat watching and rebaiting the sandeel rods every 30 mins but it just wasn't happening,...........
the only saviour was this 1lb 2oz Turbot, with some very careful surgery through the gill I managed to remove the pennel hooks
and it was fun to watch it recover in a large pool of sea water that had surged over the sandbank.....once settled I released him.
with the tide ebbing id had enough so another Rayless session down the SOD.
Still other than catching squid on jigs from a pier it was a first for me to get one on bait....never ceases to surprise me what is checking out my well intended baits out in the inky darkness of the sea......
oh and it will join 2 others I had from Boscombe pier for this chilli squid dish.......delish
